10 June 2026: what holiday is celebrated in Ukraine and what is not allowed
10 June 2026 is not a public holiday in Ukraine, but it marks several religious, international and folk observances.
According to the church calendar, this day honours the holy martyr Timothy, Bishop of Prussia. In folk tradition, the day was associated with omens regarding the weather, the harvest and domestic well-being.
Also, the Fast of Peter continues on 10 June. In 2026, according to the new church calendar, it began on 8 June and will last until 28 June inclusive.
What is the church holiday on 10 June
According to the New Julian calendar, to which the Orthodox Church of Ukraine switched on 1 September 2023, 10 June honours Saint Timothy the Martyr, Bishop of Prussia.
Saint Timothy lived in the 4th century. In church tradition, he is remembered as a bishop who preached Christianity and suffered for his faith during the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate.
Church calendars also commemorate the Venerable Silouan, a hermit of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in the Far Caves, on 10 June.
Folk omens for 10 June
Among the people, Timothy’s Day was associated with observations of the weather and nature.
It was believed that clear and calm weather on this day could herald a good grain harvest. If sticky droplets appeared on the willow, rain was expected. A large number of ants near an anthill was considered a sign of warm and dry weather.
Our ancestors also paid attention to birds. If crows gathered in flocks and cawed loudly, this was taken as a sign of deteriorating weather.
What not to do on 10 June
Folk taboos on this day are mainly linked to everyday superstitions.
It was believed that on 10 June one should not boast about money, wealth or family happiness, so as not to ‘jinx’ one’s own prosperity.
It was also advised not to leave money on the table, to quarrel, to use foul language, or to pick up found items or money from the ground.
According to folk beliefs, on this day one should not look into other people’s windows, so as not to ‘take on’ their problems.
International holidays on 10 June
10 June is celebrated worldwide as World Art Nouveau Day. In 2026, the Réseau Art Nouveau Network is holding World Art Nouveau Day on 10 June, dedicating it to the theme “Women of Art Nouveau”. This is an annual international initiative that promotes the Art Nouveau heritage through exhibitions, lectures, guided tours and other public events.
International Heraldry Day is also observed on 10 June. The date is linked to an event in 1128, when Geoffrey of Anjou, in accordance with heraldic tradition, received a shield featuring golden lions, which is considered one of the earliest examples of heraldic imagery.
Calendars of dates also mention World Ice Cream Day and World Crafts Day on 10 June. These dates are largely unofficial in nature, but are often used as a pretext for cultural, educational and entertainment content.
