Fire Point missiles struck a Russian defence plant in Cheboksary
On the morning of 10 June, explosions were heard in Cheboksary following a missile strike. This has been reported by monitoring Telegram channels and the media, citing eyewitness accounts and OSINT analysis. The VNIIR-Progress enterprise was hit. Photos and videos posted online show a column of dark smoke rising above the factory grounds.
Cheboksary is located approximately 1,000 kilometres from the border with Ukraine. Against this backdrop, some Ukrainian media outlets and Telegram channels have suggested that ‘Flamingo’ missiles may have been used in the strike. No official confirmation of this information has been provided.
The “VNIIR-Progress” enterprise is part of the “ABS Elektro” company. According to information on the company’s website, it is engaged in the development and production of software and hardware complexes, automated control systems, electronic components, electronic modules, electrical products and radio-electronic equipment.
According to media reports, the plant manufactures military and specialised electronics, including navigation modules and ‘Kometa’-type antenna arrays, as well as units for cruise and ballistic missiles.
It is also reported that the company manufactures satellite receivers and antennas for the Glonass, GPS and Galileo systems. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, “Kometa”-type modules are used in Shahed kamikaze drones, Iskander-M and Kalibr missiles, and UMPC modules for aerial bombs.
The VNIIR-Progress plant was already attacked on 5 May. On that occasion, the facility was struck twice by drones.
