State Enterprise Cleans 2.5-Hectare Illegal Waste Site in Obolon Following Prosecutor’s Claim
Thanks to the intervention of the Obolon District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, a large illegal dumpsite covering approximately 2.5 hectares has been removed. During the exercise of its representative functions, and in cooperation with the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Capital District, prosecutors discovered violations of environmental legislation on a land plot located on Vyshhorodska Street in the Obolon district.
The land, which belongs to the state and had been leased to a state-owned enterprise for agricultural use, had effectively been turned into an unauthorized landfill. Construction and household waste — including glass, plastic, wood, textiles, metal, and other materials — had been accumulating there. Specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate confirmed the contamination of the site.
Despite an official order issued by the Department of Territorial Control of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) and repeated demands from environmental authorities, the enterprise failed for a long time to eliminate the violations or clear the land of waste.
As a result, the prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit seeking to compel the state enterprise to remove the illegal dumpsite. During the court proceedings, the enterprise ultimately complied with the prosecutor’s demands and cleared the area of accumulated waste, after which the case was closed.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
