40 years since Chernobyl: Zelenskyy calls for an end to Russia’s nuclear terror
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his official Telegram channel.
Protection under threat
A sarcophagus and a new safe confinement have been erected over the destroyed reactor, created through the efforts of over 40 countries. These structures are the only ones containing the radiation, yet Russian aggression poses a direct threat to them:
-
UAV flights: Russian-Iranian ‘Shaheds’ are systematically flying over the plant.
-
Direct hits: last year, one of the drones struck the containment structure directly.
“The world must not allow this nuclear terrorism to continue. The best way is to force Russia to stop its mad attacks,” the President emphasised.
Remembrance and gratitude
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the remembrance of everyone who gave their lives during the clean-up of the 1986 accident. May the memory of all the victims of the Chernobyl disaster live on.
As ThePublic previously noted, the Chernobyl disaster has long been a global landmark. However, for Ukraine, it is first and foremost a story of how a totalitarian system tried to save face, ruthlessly sacrificing the lives of millions of people to conceal the truth.
