A 52-year-old man has died after visiting the Kremenchuk Territorial Centre for Social Services: the State Bureau of Investigation has launched an inquiry
The State Bureau of Investigations has opened a criminal case following the death of a 52-year-old man who, after staying at the Kremenchuk District Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support, was hospitalised with serious bodily injuries.
According to the SBI, the medical certificate states that the cause of death was a closed head injury, a fracture of the skull base, and haemorrhages beneath the meninges and within the brain tissue. Preliminary findings suggest that these injuries may have been caused by a blunt object.
According to the investigation, on the evening of 2 July, police officers stopped a man who was driving and, whilst speaking to him, noticed signs of alcohol intoxication.
On the night of 3 July, he was taken to the Kremenchuk District Centre for Temporary Detention and Pre-trial Detention, where he remained until 4 July. It is during this period that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding how he may have sustained his injuries.
The man was later admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Kremenchuk in a critical condition. He underwent surgery on 5 July, but died on 9 July.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — abuse of power or official authority by a military official, committed under martial law.
