Chisora called Usyk a freak because of his fight against Wilder
His comments were reported by Seconds Out.
The boxing veteran initially refused to comment at all on the Ukrainian’s decision to relinquish all his championship titles, with the exception of The Ring belt.
However, he later recalled how he had previously asked Oleksandr to vacate the IBF title so that he could fight Deontay Wilder for the championship. But at the time, Usyk did not accept the offer.
“Usyk made me angry because I’d been calling his manager. I rang him. I even video-called him, and he showed me his lovely daughter. He was at home with his family. I said: ‘Bro, I’m going to fight Deontay Wilder. Give up the IBF title; do it for me as a friend.’ Usyk replied: ‘Oh, I’ll let you know about everything.’ That bloody bastard. That bloke’s a scumbag,” said Derek.
Chisora explained that his team had been putting pressure on the undefeated Ukrainian boxer. Derek’s representatives pestered Usyk every day, but in the end he refused.
“We put pressure on him. We rang him every day, but he wouldn’t agree. And then he suddenly decided to fight a kickboxer and realised he wasn’t the same anymore. And he immediately gave up his titles. I think that was selfish of him. You expect people in boxing to be your friends, but we’re all different, mate,” replied the 42-year-old Briton.
It’s worth recalling that Chisora, who recently attended Murat Gassiev’s fight in Moscow, did eventually step into the ring against Wilder. This took place in early April 2026. The bout at London’s O2 Arena ended in a split-decision victory for Deontay.
Usyk is now tipped to face the “Bronze Bomber” in the US, in what is set to be the Ukrainian’s final fight.
Earlier, Usyk’s decision was criticised by Itouma’s coach, who rebuked him. According to the coach, the boxer from Crimea was too late in relinquishing all his championship belts.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Deontay Wilder could become Oleksandr Usyk’s final opponent.
