The Russians have released a video of what appears to be a FAB-3000 strike on Orikhiv
This is reported by the publication *Focus*, which analysed footage released by the occupiers.
The video shows an explosion in a built-up area. After the strike, a large fireball rises above the buildings, and the area is subsequently engulfed in a thick cloud of smoke.
Russian sources claim that a FAB-3000 high-explosive aerial bomb was used in the attack. At the time of publication, the Ukrainian military and local authorities had not officially confirmed the type of munition captured on video.
Where might the aerial bomb have struck?
The footage shows a residential neighbourhood and a church. According to journalists’ preliminary assessments, the strike may have hit the area around the Church of the Holy Protection in the northern part of Orikhiv. The exact location of the strike, the extent of the damage and details of any casualties have not been officially disclosed.
The video began circulating on 12 July. On that day, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported 12 Russian air strikes on settlements in the region, including Orikhiv. However, the regional report did not specify the calibre of the aerial bombs used.
What is known about the FAB-3000
The FAB-3000 is a Soviet high-explosive aerial bomb with a total weight of over three tonnes. It can contain approximately 1.2–1.4 tonnes of explosive. Russia equips such munitions with guidance and correction modules, which allow aircraft to drop the bombs at a distance from the target.
Russian forces have already used, or claimed to have used, the FAB-3000 against Ukrainian towns. The large mass of explosives creates a powerful shockwave and causes significant destruction around the point of impact.
Orihiv is situated a few kilometres from the front line and is regularly subjected to Russian attacks involving artillery, drones and guided aerial bombs. A significant proportion of the town’s buildings has been destroyed or damaged.
