A shooting has taken place in Seattle during a food festival — there are fatalities and a teenager has been injured
This has been reported by ABC News.
The incident took place on the evening of 26 July, whilst hundreds of visitors were attending the festival. According to the police, two men opened fire on each other right in the middle of the crowd.
Two people died at the scene before paramedics arrived, whilst another woman died in hospital from her injuries. According to the police, the victims were two men aged 19 and 44, and a 56-year-old woman.
Three other victims — a teenager, a 23-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman — are currently in hospital in a stable condition. A fourth injured person refused hospitalisation.
Seattle City Council has described the incident as a ‘horrific act of violence’. Police have arrested one of the suspects and are currently questioning him, whilst the second person involved in the shooting fled the scene and is being sought.
“The families of the victims are going through the worst moments of their lives, and the whole community is trying to understand how an event that was meant to bring people together around culture and joy ended in a shooting. No one should have to weigh up the risk of being shot before attending an event or meeting up with friends,” said Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson.
Two firearms were recovered from the scene of the crime. As there were no CCTV cameras in the area where the shooting took place, the police are appealing to witnesses to provide any information about the shooter.
