A soldier in the North-Western Military District wounded two KORD officers during a search and then shot himself
This was reported by the National Police.
The incident took place on the morning of 16 July during an authorised search of the man’s home. According to the police, he had been classified as a military serviceman who had deserted his unit since September 2024.
The search was carried out as part of an investigation into criminal proceedings under sections relating to fraud and the illegal smuggling of persons across the state border. Police investigators, operatives from the Department of Strategic Investigations and KORD special forces were involved in the operation.
According to law enforcement officials, during the search, the man opened targeted fire on the special forces officers.
As a result of the shooting, two KORD officers were wounded. They were hospitalised; according to the police, their lives are not in danger.
Law enforcement officials also reported that, following the armed resistance, the man, whilst still inside the house, shot himself in the head and died.
Investigators and forensic experts are working at the scene. A weapon has been seized from the house, and efforts to establish all the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
