The new Minister of the Interior, Ivan Vygivskyi
Following his appointment as Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivan Vygivskyi stated that he would continue to work on strengthening national security and developing the entire Ministry of Internal Affairs system. Before joining the government, he headed the National Police.

I would like to thank the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Government for their trust. I am fully aware of the responsibility that this appointment places upon me. I would like to extend my special thanks to Ihor Klymenko for his work and significant contribution to the development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during one of the most challenging periods for our country. There is much work and many challenges ahead. Vyhovskyi specifically thanked his predecessor, Ihor Klymenko, for his work and contribution to the development of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the full-scale war.

The new minister stated that, together with his team, he would focus on strengthening national security, protecting citizens and further developing all components of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Who is Ivan Vyhovskyi?

Ivan Vyhovskyi was born on 26 March 1980 in the Zhytomyr region. In 2003, he graduated from the National University of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and holds a PhD in Law.

He began his career in the internal affairs services as an investigator in Ochakiv, Mykolaiv Oblast. Over the following years, he held senior positions in municipal and district police units, and following the establishment of the National Police, he became head of the Ochakiv Police Department.

From December 2016, Vygivskyi served as Deputy Chief of Police for Mykolaiv Oblast and headed the regional investigative department. In February 2020, he was appointed Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Poltava Oblast.

In August 2021, Vygivskyi took charge of the Kyiv police. In January 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed him to act as Head of the National Police on an interim basis, and in July of the same year appointed him as the head of the agency. He held this post until he joined the government.

Vygivskyi’s candidacy for the post of Minister of Internal Affairs was put forward by the newly appointed Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi as part of the new Cabinet of Ministers.
