A soldier from the 128th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade ‘Dyke Pole’, with the call sign ‘Trump’, shared his own prediction regarding the end of the war after six months of continuous service at positions near Stepnogorsk. In his view, the fighting will continue until at least 2027

This was reported by the 128th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade ‘Dyke Pole’.

From builder to soldier

A soldier named Yurii is originally from the Mykolaiv region. Before the full-scale invasion, he worked in the construction industry. After Russian troops marched through his home village, he volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Initially, Yurii served as a machine-gunner in the Kherson region, and later carried out combat missions in the Zaporizhzhia sector. His brother also serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces — currently in the Donetsk region. The soldier was given the call sign ‘Trump’ whilst still in service. Following Donald Trump’s election as US President, this became a source of constant jokes amongst his comrades.

Half a year without rotation

His last deployment to the front line lasted around six months. According to the soldier, one of the toughest challenges was not only the constant threat from Russian drones, but also supply disruptions.

When the occupiers destroyed the logistics drones, the soldiers had to collect rainwater from puddles, purify it using tissues and special tablets, and use it for drinking, cooking and even making coffee. The loss of communication following the destruction of Starlink was no less challenging. It was only thanks to the help of volunteers that the unit received a new set of equipment.

When, in the soldier’s opinion, will the war end?

Upon returning from the front line, Yurii received an award from the brigade command. When asked the question he is asked most often, the soldier shared his own prediction.

“2027. Not before, but not after either. In my opinion, Russia will no longer be able to wage war at the current pace,” said the soldier.

Yurii is due to take a month’s leave. During this time, he plans to see his brother – who also serves in the Armed Forces – for the first time in a year and a half, and to meet up with his parents. After that, he intends to return to his unit.
