The Main Intelligence Directorate destroyed a Russian MiG-29 at the Belbek airfield in Crimea
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
What is known about the operation
According to intelligence reports, the operation was carried out on the night of 25–26 June by units of the General Staff’s Unmanned Systems Department. In addition to the MiG-29 fighter jet, an airfield launch facility was also hit; at the time of the attack, it was servicing a Russian military aircraft. The Main Intelligence Directorate notes that the Russian side’s preliminary losses could amount to tens of millions of dollars.
What is known about Belbek airfield
Belbek airfield is situated in the south-west of the temporarily occupied Crimea, near Sevastopol. It is used by Russian forces as one of the key airbases on the peninsula for stationing combat aircraft. The Main Intelligence Directorate has also released footage of targets being struck, noting that combat operations to destroy the occupiers’ military infrastructure are ongoing.
