Tusk called on Poland to refrain from making any new financial commitments to Ukraine

Poland has already made its contribution
Donald Tusk appealed to the Polish delegation, led by President Karol Nawrocki, to refrain from making statements that might imply new financial commitments by the country towards Ukraine.
According to the Prime Minister, Poland is already shouldering a significant burden by funding the modernisation of its armed forces, the strengthening of the EU’s eastern border and the development of defence infrastructure.
“This is not because I believe that Ukraine does not need financial support. I believe that Poland has very significant obligations along the entire eastern border of the EU, and everyone must take this into account,” Tusk said.
Support for Ukraine remains unchanged
The Prime Minister emphasised separately that his position should not be interpreted as a signal of a change in Warsaw’s policy towards Ukraine. He recalled that, from the outset of the full-scale invasion, Poland had become one of Kyiv’s key partners. A significant proportion of international military and humanitarian aid passes through its territory, and Warsaw itself was among the first to supply Ukraine with tanks, artillery, armoured vehicles, ammunition and other weaponry. In addition, Poland has taken in millions of Ukrainians who were forced to flee their homes because of the war.
What NATO will focus on
The NATO summit will take place on 7–8 July. It is expected that the allies will discuss further support for Ukraine, an increase in defence spending by Alliance member states and the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank. One of the items on the agenda will be the sharing of the financial burden among the allies during the implementation of new aid programmes for Ukraine.
