An unnamed NATO country has ordered thousands of Rheinmetall artillery shells for Ukraine
United24 Media reports this, citing a statement issued by the company itself on 8 July.
The contract is estimated to be worth several tens of millions of euros. Rheinmetall has already commenced production of the ammunition and plans to fulfil the order in full by April 2027.
The package includes ER02A1 Base Bleed long-range artillery shells, manufactured by Rheinmetall’s Spanish subsidiary Expal Munitions, as well as DM72 modular propellant charges produced by Nitrochemie.
The group notes that this ammunition is already in service with several NATO armies and is compatible with most standard 155-mm artillery systems.
The use of Base Bleed technology makes it possible to increase the firing range without modifying the gun itself, which is particularly important during counter-battery operations.
Rheinmetall emphasised that it continues to invest heavily in expanding production, as demand for modern artillery ammunition remains at record levels.
The company plans to increase its output of 155-mm shells to 1.5 million units per year by 2030, making it one of the world’s largest manufacturers of artillery ammunition.
It is worth noting that, just recently, Rheinmetall announced another major deal – in partnership with the American firm Lockheed Martin, the company will establish Europe’s first production line for ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles in Germany. The new facility will operate at Rheinmetall’s plant in Unterluss and is set to boost the production of high-precision long-range weapons for NATO countries.
As previously reported, Rheinmetall will produce 100,000 long-range artillery shells for Ukraine each year.
