Attack from Crimea: Russia strikes Vinnytsia region with ballistic missiles for the first time
On the night of 20 January, Russia launched another combined strike on Ukrainian territory, using strike drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. The Vinnytsia region was under attack. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AF AU), for the first time since the start of the full-scale war, ballistic missiles were launched at Vinnytsia from the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
At around 02:30, the Air Force detected two ballistic targets moving towards the regional centre. A second missile warning was issued at 02:37.
The final type of missiles used to attack the region is to be determined by an appropriate investigation. At the same time, according to preliminary information from one of the monitoring Telegram channels, the missiles may have been of the Iskander-I, KN-23 or Zircon type.
In the morning, the head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, Natalia Zabolotna, reported that as a result of the night attack, a critical infrastructure facility in the region had been hit.
"Fortunately, there were no casualties. All relevant services are working at the scene. Thank you for your prompt and coordinated work," said the head of the region.
