Australia is to provide Ukraine with a further $100 million for military equipment
The Australian Government has announced a new contribution to support Ukraine’s defence.
Australia will provide Ukraine with an additional 100 million Australian dollars for critically needed military equipment as part of the PURL initiative.

This was announced by the Australian Government’s press office on 19 June.

The Australian Government has announced a new contribution to support Ukraine’s defence. The funds will be used to purchase critically needed military equipment to counter Russian aggression.

This involves two additional contributions of 50 million Australian dollars each, which Australia is to make over the next 12 months. Previously, in December 2025, the country had already allocated 50 million dollars as part of the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, or PURL.

What is the PURL?

The PURL is an initiative through which partners help Ukraine to obtain priority military equipment and capabilities. The Australian government has stated that this specifically includes air defence systems and ammunition.

Australia is participating in this programme in partnership with NATO. In December 2025, together with New Zealand, it became the first non-NATO country to contribute to the PURL.

How much aid has Australia provided so far?

Following this latest decision, the total amount of Australian support for Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion will exceed 1.8 billion Australian dollars.

Of this amount, more than 1.6 billion Australian dollars is military aid.

What the Australian Defence Minister said

Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Richard Marles, stated that events in Ukraine are also significant for the Indo-Pacific region. He said that Australia must continue to support Ukraine until it achieves peace on its own terms.

He also emphasised that Australia is proud to be participating in the PURL alongside New Zealand as the first non-NATO countries to contribute to this initiative.

The day before, Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that, following the 35th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the ‘Ramstein’ format, partners had pledged approximately $4 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

According to him, key areas of support include the PURL programme, strengthening air defence, artillery and drones.
