Moscow is under attack from drones again; restrictions are being introduced at Russian airports
On Friday, 19 June, Moscow came under attack from drones once again. According to monitoring Telegram channels, the drones were heading towards the Russian capital from various directions.
The Russian authorities confirmed the attack and claimed to have shot down the aerial targets. As of 13:00, Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported more than 20 drones, which, he said, had been shot down as they approached the city.
Residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region posted videos on social media showing the drones in flight and the air defence systems in action.
Information about the new attack was also confirmed in Ukraine. Serhiy Sternenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian Minister of Defence, stated that drones were heading towards the Russian capital from various directions.
Due to the attack, Rosaviatsiya has imposed temporary restrictions at Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports.
“Restrictions have been imposed on the arrival and departure of aircraft,” the agency said.
The day before, on 18 June, Moscow was also attacked by drones. The Russian authorities reported that air defence systems had been activated and confirmed an attack on an oil refinery.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that, over the past 24 hours, air defence systems had allegedly shot down 992 drones, as well as missiles and aerial bombs.
