An explosion occurred near the US Embassy in Oslo
On Saturday night, an explosion occurred near the US Embassy in Oslo, causing minor damage to the building. This was reported by the police in the Norwegian capital.
A loud explosion was heard at around 1 a.m. local time near the embassy, which is located in the western part of Oslo.
Local media, citing eyewitnesses, reported that smoke rose above the area after the explosion.
Police spokesman Michael Dellemer told public broadcaster NRK that the explosion occurred near the entrance to the consular section of the diplomatic mission.
"At around 1:00 a.m., we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed that an explosion had occurred, affecting the US embassy," he said.
According to Michael Dellemer, the damage is minor.
The police reported that the search for those involved in the incident is ongoing. Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed any details about the nature or causes of the explosion.
Michael Dellamer also noted that no other explosive devices were found in the area of the incident.
After the incident, a large area around the diplomatic mission was cordoned off, and a large number of police officers are working at the scene.
Local media reported that law enforcement officers were stopping cars travelling near the scene.
The police said they were in contact with representatives of the US Embassy. There is no information about casualties.
US representatives in Oslo and the US State Department have not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier it was reported that US diplomatic missions in the Middle East are on high alert due to the war with Iran.
At the same time, Michael Dellamer said that there is currently no reason to link the explosion in Oslo with tensions in the Middle East.
"We are not linking this to the conflict. It is too early for that," he told TV2.
