Most Americans oppose Trump’s signature on dollar bills — poll
This is according to the results of a YouGov poll.
Currently, banknotes bear the signatures of former US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Treasurer Lynn Maherby. Replacing Maherby’s signature with Trump’s autograph is supported by 23% of those surveyed.
Among Democrats, 5% support the decision, whilst among Republicans, 49% do. 87% of Democrats voted against the design change, whilst only 26% of Republicans disagree.
The banknote design is to be changed to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence. The first notes are scheduled to be printed in June, with the rest following in July. This will be the first time in 165 years that the US dollar will not bear the Treasury Secretary’s signature.
Also in the US, a commemorative gold coin featuring Trump standing at a table with his fists clenched was approved in March.
