What is known about “Centrenergo”
PJSC “Centrenergo” is one of Ukraine’s largest power generation companies.
It is the only thermal power generation company in which the state, represented by the State Property Fund of Ukraine, holds a controlling stake.
The company comprises three large thermal power stations with a total installed capacity of around 7,700 MW.
These are the Trypilska TPP in the Kyiv region, the Zmiivska TPP in the Kharkiv region and the Vuhlehirsk TPP in the Donetsk region.
The Trypilska TPP supplies electricity to the Kyiv energy hub.
The Zmiiv Thermal Power Plant meets the needs of the Slobozhanshchyna region.
The Vuhlehirsk TPP is located in temporarily occupied territory. In July 2022, it was captured by Russian troops.
In the spring of 2024, the Zmiiv and Trypilska thermal power stations suffered significant damage as a result of missile strikes.
The government allocated 1.5 billion hryvnias to restore the damaged capacity.
Following the shutdown of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the 1,800 MW Trypilska TPP remained the largest thermal power generation facility in the Kyiv region.
What happened under Harkavy’s leadership
Yevhen Harkavyi took over as head of Centrenergo on 25 June 2024.
At that time, the company had approximately 480,000 UAH in its accounts.
The generating capacity of the two power stations in the territory controlled by Ukraine had been virtually destroyed by Russian shelling.
Since then, the company has suffered over 200 further hits.
Despite this, according to Forbes Ukraine, the company managed to emerge from default, restore financial stability and post record results for the entire duration of its existence.
Centrenergo’s net profit stood at 4.84 billion UAH, and revenue at 7.01 billion UAH.
The amount of funds in the company’s accounts rose to 3.6 billion UAH.
Centrenergo also secured external grant funding for the first time, amounting to €350,000.
As reported by ThePublic, the Kyiv Commercial Court ruled in favour of the state-owned Centrenergo and ordered a private company to pay 239.41 million UAH for a failed coal supply contract.
