Через шторм в Естонії без світла залишилися понад 14 тисяч споживачів
Thousands of households were left without power supply as a result of a severe storm that hit Estonia over the weekend. According to the grid operator Elektrilevi, as of six in the morning on Sunday, more than 14,000 customers had experienced emergency outages. By nine o'clock, their number had dropped to more than 11,000, and around 1 p.m., about 8,000 customers were without power. This was reported by The Public with reference to Err.ee.
The Harjumaa region was the most affected by the weather. Significant outages were also recorded in Lääne Virumaa, Raplamaa and Tartumaa. According to Mikkel Härma, Chairman of the Board of Elektrilevi, emergency crews are working in two shifts. The company's crisis reserve, arborists and forestry teams are involved in the storm response.
The company expects that power supply will be restored in most regions of Estonia during Sunday. In Raplamaa, the work may last until Monday, and in Lääne Virumaa, the grid is expected to be restored no earlier than Tuesday evening. Strong winds significantly complicate the work and extend the repair time, as it is dangerous to carry out electrical work in such conditions.
Meteorologists warned of wind gusts of up to 29 metres per second, sometimes up to 32 metres. Trees falling on power lines were the main cause of the accidents. On Sunday, the wind is gradually weakening, which should speed up the restoration of power supply.
