Prices in Ukraine have changed dramatically: what became most expensive in February
This was reported by the State Statistics Service.
According to the State Statistics Service, in February, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.4% overall for the month.
Vegetables rose the most in price, jumping 13% at once. Experts explain this by seasonal factors: in winter, stocks of fresh vegetables decrease, while storage and transportation costs increase.
Fruit prices also rose significantly, by an average of 6.1%.
In addition, eggs rose in price by 3.1%, and fish and fish products by 1.7%.
Prices for other popular products also rose between 0.4% and 6.1%. These include bread, pasta, grain products, sunflower oil, beef and milk.
At the same time, some products became slightly cheaper. In particular, prices for meat and meat products fell by approximately 1.2%.
Sugar fell by 0.9% and vegetable oil by 0.4%.
The changes also affected the service sector. The highest price increase was recorded in the communications sector, where prices rose by 5.2% overall.
The main reason was an increase in mobile communication tariffs. Over the month, they increased by approximately 9.1%.
Transport services also became more expensive, by an average of 1.4%. One of the reasons was the increase in the cost of fuel and lubricants, which added about 3.3% to the price.
At the same time, some transport costs decreased. For example, rail transport fares fell by approximately 2.2%.
In addition, clothing and footwear traditionally became cheaper in February, with their cost falling by 2.7%. This is due to seasonal sales after the end of the winter period.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, on the contrary, became slightly more expensive. On average, their prices rose by 1.2%, and tobacco products became approximately 1.6% more expensive.
Overall, core inflation in February was 0.7%.
In annual terms, inflation in Ukraine is currently at around 7%.
Economists note that fluctuations in food prices in winter are common, but even minor changes in the cost of goods have a noticeable impact on the daily expenses of Ukrainians.
