Sabotage in France and attacks on the power grid have brought arms production to a standstill
This has been reported by the French media.
The attacks took place in the Cher region (central France), specifically near the towns of Bourges, La Chapelle and Saint-Florent.
On the night of 6 April, unknown individuals set fire to several facilities – a high-voltage substation, transformers and power lines. As a result, over 3,000 households were left without power, industrial facilities were affected, and the power grid had to be urgently restored.
According to preliminary estimates, repairs could take months and cost millions of euros.
Most importantly, the facilities targeted are those that support the operations of key defence companies MBDA and KNDS.
These companies manufacture missiles, ammunition and artillery systems, including the CAESAR howitzer. In other words, the attack was directed not merely at the energy sector, but at France’s military-industrial complex.
The French public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation and is treating the incidents as coordinated sabotage.
A message reading ‘Actions contre la guerre’ (‘Actions against war’) was found at one of the sites, which may indicate a political motive or an attempt to conceal the true perpetrators.
According to analysts, since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, over 150 hybrid attacks have been recorded in Europe: arson, sabotage, cyberattacks and attempted explosions.
The main targets are countries supporting Ukraine, military enterprises, energy infrastructure and logistics.
