Fire at the Saratov Oil Refinery following a drone attack
This is according to Ukrainska Pravda.
According to available information, a series of explosions was heard in Saratov at around 3 am. Local residents have posted photos and videos showing several fires and a thick plume of smoke rising above the plant’s grounds. Preliminary reports suggest the blast may have struck the isomerisation unit.
The regional authorities have not yet reported on the consequences
There is currently no official information regarding the extent of the damage or the consequences of the attack. Roman Busargin, Governor of the Saratov Region, has only reported a threat of unmanned aerial vehicles being used in the region. In addition, reports have emerged of an oil depot being hit in the town of Matveev Kurgan in the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation. No official confirmation of the consequences of this attack has been released as yet.
What is known about the Saratov Oil Refinery
The Saratov Oil Refinery is part of Rosneft and is one of the oldest oil refineries in Russia. The refinery has a capacity of around 5.8 million tonnes of crude oil per year, which is approximately 2.2% of the total oil refining volume in the Russian Federation. The plant produces diesel, petrol, fuel oil and aviation fuel. According to open sources, the Saratov Oil Refinery supplies fuel to, among others, the Russian occupation forces.
