Greek-Ukrainian Gas Agreement: What You Need to Know
Today, an agreement was signed with Greece on the operational supply of natural gas to Ukraine. These arrangements are planned for the first quarter of 2026. This was reported by the Greek natural gas operator DEPA.
The company clarified that they signed a Declaration of Intent with "Naftogaz of Ukraine" regarding "the supply of natural gas to the Ukrainian market during the winter period from December 2025 to March 2026".
"As part of the upcoming agreement, transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States is planned via 'Route 1', which is jointly provided by the transport system operators (TSOs) of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine," - writes DEPA.
Additionally, the press release stated that the agreement is a significant step in strengthening "regional energy cooperation and Europe's energy security."
Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a press conference. It was announced that Ukraine and Greece agreed on the creation of a new energy route. The discussion was about supplying gas to Ukraine through a vertical energy corridor from Greek Alexandroupolis to Odessa.
"This is a decisive contribution to the stability and security of our region and yours. The project is made possible thanks to Greece's infrastructure and strategic partnerships," - said Mitsotakis.
He emphasized that the new route will become a "safe energy artery" from south to north, allowing Ukraine to access reliable sources of energy.
Zelensky, in turn, clarified that the first supplies to Ukraine from Greece will begin as early as January 2026.
