In Kryvyi Rih, police have detained a man who allegedly threatened passers-by with a live grenade.

This was reported by the National Police.

The incident took place on the evening of 24 June. Patrol officers came across a man next to whom lay an object that appeared to be an RGD-5 combat grenade.

“During the interaction, the man behaved aggressively and attempted to grab the dangerous object. The patrol officers detained him using physical force and special equipment,” the police stated.

According to the police, a search of the man revealed another object resembling an electric detonator. An investigative team and bomb disposal experts soon arrived at the scene.

The police say the detainee was a 47-year-old man who had left his military unit without authorisation. He was handed over to investigators, and the dangerous object was seized for examination.
