Iran has attacked an oil refinery and a desalination plant in Kuwait
Iran has continued to launch strikes against Israel and countries in the Persian Gulf. Critical infrastructure has come under fire, according to the BBC.
In Kuwait, a drone attack caused a fire at the Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery. This is the third time this facility has been hit. A power station and a desalination plant were also struck. Officials say that parts of the infrastructure have been damaged.
In the United Arab Emirates, debris caused a fire at a gas facility in Abu Dhabi.
In Israel, the Israel Defence Forces reported a new wave of Iranian missiles. The day before, the United States struck a bridge in the Iranian city of Karaj. According to local authorities, eight people were killed and around 100 were injured.
Observers note that strikes on desalination plants could have serious consequences for the Gulf states.
Meanwhile, in Iran itself, according to BBC Persian, the authorities are resorting to arrests and executions to suppress discontent. In some areas, people report constant patrols that prevent them from sleeping at night.
BBC International Editor Jeremy Bowen notes that Donald Trump’s latest actions signal a departure from the rules of the international order. In his words, ‘it is clear that he is looking for a way out of the situation, but no deal currently seems possible’.
