Yermak reported the detention of Yermak the scammer
The Main Directorate of the Kyiv Police, together with other law enforcement agencies, detained a group of individuals who used the name and authority of the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine to extort money. One of them, claiming to be a cousin, emphasized that he could secure a "high position" — provided he was paid.
The Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, confirmed in his Telegram channel: "I just learned from the police that they caught a group of scammers 'red-handed.' Led by a certain Yermak D.S., who called himself my cousin. Of course, this is a fraudulent invention. Using such a legend, he tried to extort 100 thousand dollars for supposedly securing someone a high position in the Office of the President." He also added: "I am confident that the criminals will face justice."
The investigation established that the suspects were operating in Kyiv. One of them assumed the surname of the Head of the Office and posed as a close relative to authoritatively demand large sums of money from citizens for employment services. Similar schemes had been attempted by other fraudulent groups before, but this case stands out for the public use of Yermak's surname.
Police officers are conducting a series of searches and interrogations to determine the full scope and duration of the group's activities, and whether they had connections with other similar schemes. One law enforcement officer noted that not all victims have yet filed reports, and those affected could be both individuals and business representatives who were promised a "career" in exchange for a reward.
