Cabinet prepares targeted assistance due to sharp rise in fuel prices
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the government is preparing targeted support for Ukrainians who are most affected by the rise in fuel prices at petrol stations.
According to her, the Ministry of Economy, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, are already working on possible models for providing such assistance.
The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on consumers caused by the increase in the cost of petroleum products.
The government notes that the current situation on the fuel market is mainly due to external factors, in particular those related to instability on global energy markets.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers is strengthening control over the situation on the domestic market.
In particular, the government has established requirements for fuel market operators to prevent internal speculation and unjustified price increases.
The state-owned company Ukrnafta is to act as a benchmark for fair prices on the fuel market.
The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the State Food and Consumer Service will monitor the price situation and conduct daily market monitoring.
The government also emphasises the need to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel in Ukraine and social protection for the population in the context of rising prices.
