Kamala Harris is considering running for US president in 2028
Former US Vice-President Kamala Harris, who was the Democratic Party’s candidate in the 2024 presidential election, has said she is considering running again in 2028, according to Reuters.
She made the statement during a speech at an event organised by the National Action Network in New York, founded by Reverend Al Sharpton. When asked if she planned to run again, Harris replied: “Maybe, maybe. I’m thinking about it, I’m thinking about it.” Her words were met with applause from the audience.
Harris added that she would make her decision based on who, in 2028, would be best able to fulfil the duties of the presidency “for the American people”.
Kamala Harris served as Vice President in Joe Biden’s administration. In the 2024 election, she lost to Donald Trump, who won both the popular vote and the Electoral College.
Previously, Harris also served as a US Senator and Attorney General of California. In 2020, she had already attempted to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidential election, but was unsuccessful.
Harris’s potential participation in the 2028 election may face difficulties, as, according to polls, some voters expect new leaders to emerge within the Democratic Party following its defeat in the 2024 election.
Other potential Democratic candidates also took part in the National Action Network event, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
