“Karpatnaftohim” may lay off staff: warning issued in Kalush
This was announced following an extraordinary meeting of the Commission on Technological and Environmental Safety and Emergencies in Kalush.
An extraordinary meeting of the Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies took place in Kalush.
The situation at Karpatnaftohim LLC and the possible mass redundancy of the company’s employees were brought up for consideration.
The statement notes that the issue directly affects the community’s livelihood.
At present, the situation at the company remains uncertain. “Karpatnaftohim” is undergoing bankruptcy proceedings.
At the same time, the Kalush authorities have received information that mass redundancies of employees are possible as early as June due to the prolonged non-payment of wages.
During the meeting, Deputy Director General for Economics and Finance Yarema Rudyk reported that the total period of unpaid wages amounts to around one and a half years.
According to him, current wages were paid until January 2026, after which payments ceased entirely.
Mass redundancies of both management and operational staff are already taking place at the company.
According to those present at the meeting, the situation has become so critical that the security service can no longer ensure proper supervision at all posts on the site.
Kalush Mayor Andriy Naida stated that this turn of events poses a critical threat of a complete shutdown of the treatment facilities.
According to him, this could have serious man-made and environmental consequences for the community.
“This turn of events, in turn, poses a critical threat – the complete shutdown of the treatment facilities, which will have serious man-made and environmental consequences for the community. We cannot allow events to unfold according to this scenario. In this regard, we emphasise the personal liability of the insolvency administrator for the possible consequences of inaction, including criminal liability, in the event of an emergency,” said Naida.
Following the meeting, the commission decided to appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, the Kalush District Prosecutor’s Office, the Kalush District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, and the Kalush District Directorate of Civil Protection and Preventive Activities of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the region.
Appeals will also be sent to the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration, the Kalush District State Administration, and the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Carpathian District.
The aim of these appeals is to ensure an immediate response and the implementation of all necessary measures to prevent a local-level man-made and environmental emergency.
The Kalush authorities had previously raised the issue of transferring the treatment facilities to municipal ownership, but received no response.
As reported by ThePublic, Ukraine called on the UN to immediately cease all military operations near nuclear facilities. Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko stated that the Russian war poses unprecedented risks to nuclear safety, particularly due to threats to the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants.
