At the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, a demonstration robot battle did not go to plan. Instead of fighting, one of the robots turned around, drove off in the opposite direction and fell over in front of the spectators

Robot refused to fight

During a demonstration at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the organisers staged a fight between two humanoid robots, but the technology failed to follow the planned script. After the starting signal, instead of moving towards its opponent, one of the robots turned around and headed in the opposite direction. Upon reaching the octagon fence, it fell to the floor. The other robot followed it, but after its opponent fell, it merely made a few movements and also stopped. The unexpected ending to the ‘fight’ amused the audience. A video of the moment quickly went viral on social media.

The technology demonstration was mocked online

Users began to mock the robots’ demonstration and the level of the technology on display. In the comments, they noted that modern robotics requires not only equipment, but also access to cutting-edge software, components and international cooperation. This is not the first such incident at the forum. Previously, during an attempt to hold a football match involving robots, the machines also fell over and had problems performing their tasks. The St Petersburg International Economic Forum is traditionally used by Russia to showcase its economic and technological capabilities, but this time it was the robots’ poor performance that attracted attention.
