Kata Tyutto, President of the European Committee of the Regions, has arrived in Kyiv on a visit focused on Ukraine’s recovery, community development and strengthening cooperation between Ukrainian and European regions.

This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine. The European Committee of the Regions also coordinates the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Recovery of Ukraine, which brings together Ukrainian and European communities to support decentralised reconstruction.

Kata Tyutto, President of the European Committee of the Regions, has arrived in Kyiv. During her visit, she will hold a series of meetings dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine, community development and strengthening cooperation between Ukrainian and European regions.

In particular, Tyutto is scheduled to hold talks with representatives of the Ukrainian government. These include a meeting with Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Community and Territorial Development.

What will be discussed in Kyiv

The main themes of the visit will be support for Ukrainian communities, the development of partnerships between municipalities in Ukraine and the European Union, as well as further cooperation in the field of reconstruction and European integration.

This is not just about general political support, but also about practical cooperation between cities and regions. This is precisely the approach being promoted by the European Committee of the Regions within the framework of the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for the Recovery of Ukraine. The Alliance was established in June 2022 following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Why this matters for communities

The European Committee of the Regions emphasises that Ukraine’s recovery must involve local authorities, as it is the communities themselves that best understand local needs.

The Alliance of Cities and Regions advocates for a decentralised reconstruction of Ukraine, the involvement of local and regional authorities in planning and implementing projects, and for strengthening the voice of communities in international reconstruction processes.

Who is Kata Tütto

Kata Tyutto is the President of the European Committee of the Regions. This is an advisory body of the European Union representing local and regional authorities across EU countries.

In May 2026, Tyutto stated that Ukraine’s recovery “will be won on the ground” – in the cities and regions that continue to support the country’s functioning and rebuild communities.

The European Committee of the Regions consistently supports the participation of Ukrainian communities in reconstruction processes. In May 2026, European and Ukrainian local leaders had already held a meeting in Kyiv, where they discussed new territorial partnerships and cooperation between communities.
