Ukraine is preparing to welcome a high-level US delegation comprising Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. According to Ukrainian officials, the visit may take place shortly after Orthodox Easter, which falls on 12 April this year

Bloomberg reports this, citing a statement by Kirill Budanov.

First visit and security guarantees

This will be Witkoff and Kushner’s first visit to Ukraine, although they have previously visited Moscow on numerous occasions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that this visit is a critically important step in establishing new security guarantees that the US must provide to prevent future aggression.

Key topics of the talks:

  • Security guarantees: Kyiv is seeking concrete protection mechanisms.

  • Free economic zone: Discussion of the US proposal to establish such a zone in disputed territories.

  • Peace efforts: Seeking compromises regarding the front line and the cessation of hostilities.

Signals regarding strikes on oil refineries

In an interview, Kirill Budanov also confirmed that Ukraine is receiving “certain signals” from international partners asking it to cease regular air strikes on Russian oil refineries. This is linked to rising global fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Persian Gulf. At the same time, Budanov noted that Ukraine has already made significant progress on the issue of future security agreements.
