Kyiv surgeon Mykola Polishchuk is suspected of ordering the murder of his ex-wife
This has been reported by the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Law enforcement authorities have not officially disclosed the name of the detainee. According to media reports, the individual in question is Mykola Polishchuk — a well-known Kyiv-based surgeon and head of a private clinic.
In publicly available sources, Mykola Andriyovych Polishchuk is listed as the founder and director of the ‘Resonance’ chronomedicine clinic. On the clinic’s website, he is described as a doctor and the founder of a specialism related to chronomedicine.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the 70-year-old man decided to order the murder of his ex-wife, with whom he had lived for 33 years and with whom he has two sons. The couple divorced back in 2021, but a dispute over property continued between them afterwards.
The investigation established that the motive may have been the man’s disagreement with the court’s decision regarding the division of property following the divorce. According to law enforcement, part of the property remained in the former wife’s possession.
How the investigation describes the scheme
According to the investigation, the suspect approached an acquaintance with a request to find someone to carry out the murder. Law enforcement officers then took control of the situation.
According to the prosecution, the man asked for his ex-wife to be killed and her body dumped in the woods. During a face-to-face meeting, he handed the hitman a $5,000 deposit, photographs of the woman, details of her whereabouts and a hand-drawn map of the house.
The total fee for the murder was to be 10,000 dollars.
Separately, law enforcement officers claim that the suspect asked for his ex-wife’s will to be forged. To this end, he handed over a copy of her passport and samples of her signature. The man was to pay an additional $3,000 for the forgery.
How the police staged the murder
To prevent the crime, the police carried out a special operation and staged the woman’s murder. They used professional make-up for this, and sent the suspect photographs intended to confirm that the contract had allegedly been carried out.
According to the investigation, the man then agreed to hand over the rest of the money. He was arrested whilst meeting with the hitman.
What punishment might he face?
The 70-year-old man has been charged with organising a completed attempt at premeditated murder, committed for financial gain and on commission, as well as a completed attempt to forge an official document.
The charges relate to Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 27, and paragraphs 6 and 11 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as Articles 15 and 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The suspect is in custody without the right to bail. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
