Tishchenko accused NABU of attempting to usurp power before the High Anti-Corruption Court
This has been reported by the High Anti-Corruption Court
Before the court hearing began, Mykola Tyshchenko commented on the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
According to the MP, draft laws necessary for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union are currently being considered in the Verkhovna Rada; however, in his view, they are being used in an attempt to strengthen the powers of the NABU.
“NABU wants to usurp power,” Tyshchenko told journalists before the hearing began.
On 3 July, the High Anti-Corruption Court began hearing the prosecutor’s application for a preventive measure to be imposed on the MP.
The court is due to rule on the preventive measure after examining the evidence submitted by the parties and hearing their arguments.
What is the MP suspected of?
According to the investigation, in August 2023 the MP requested over $1 million in unlawful benefits in exchange for using his position to ‘resolve the issue’ regarding the activities of fraudulent call centres.
Separately, law enforcement authorities accuse him of money laundering involving 12.6 million hryvnias. According to the investigation, a fictitious gift agreement was drawn up with his ex-wife, who had no relevant income, to explain the origin of the funds.
Furthermore, according to the investigation, these funds were declared as legitimate income.
What charges has
Mykola Tyshchenko is suspected of:
soliciting an unlawful benefit on an exceptionally large scale;
laundering property obtained by criminal means;
entering false information in his tax return.
At present, these are merely allegations. The court will make a final assessment of the evidence presented by both sides after hearing the case on its merits.
