London prepares coordinated position of Europe and Ukraine on peace
On December 8, a meeting in the E3 plus Ukraine format will be held in London with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Élysée Palace notes that the main goal of the talks is to consolidate a common European-Ukrainian position on the parameters of a future peace agreement. This was reported by The Public with reference to the Financial Times.
According to the French side, this is the first meeting in this format at the level of state leaders. The format is designed to synchronize the positions of Kyiv, European capitals, and Washington on the key conditions for ending the war. Paris emphasizes that this is about coordination after the second round of negotiations with the Americans, after which the discussion will continue in a broader European circle and will involve new contacts with US President Donald Trump.
The Elysée Palace stresses that European partners face the task of being “well informed about the components of the negotiations” and jointly developing a position that would be both responsible and effective. Ukraine retains the right to determine its own parameters of the agreement, and Europe is ready to use the available instruments, from financial support to military assistance.
The meeting is organized in two stages: first, negotiations between the leaders of the three European states, and then a joint conversation with the President of Ukraine. The result is expected to be an agreed position ahead of further international contacts.
