The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People has issued a message to Muslims to mark Eid al-Fitr. The message emphasised the unity of the people, support for the armed forces, and the hope for the liberation of Crimea.

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People has extended its greetings to Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and expressed its support for the residents of Crimea, as well as for those who have been forced to leave the Russian-occupied peninsula.

The statement notes that this year the holiday is being marked with a mixture of joy and sorrow due to the consequences of the Russian occupation. The Mejlis emphasised that despite the separation, the Crimean Tatar people remain united.

“This year we are celebrating Eid al-Fitr with mixed feelings — both the joy of the festival and the bitterness caused by the hardships that the Russian occupation has brought upon our people. Although some of us are far apart, our hearts are with Crimea,” the Mejlis stated.

The statement also paid special tribute to the Crimean Tatar soldiers and Muslims from Crimea serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and honoured the memory of those who have fallen.

“We are also proud of our Crimean Tatar soldiers who are fighting against the Russian barbarians in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We express our gratitude to them. Their courage is the foundation of the future of Ukraine, Crimea and the Crimean Tatar people. May God strengthen our soldiers and protect them,” the statement reads.

The Mejlis called for the preservation of historical memory and emphasised that no one who has fallen will be forgotten. It also expressed hope for the liberation of Crimea and the return of political prisoners and Crimean Tatars to the peninsula.

The organisation wished its compatriots peace, a blessed holiday and a happy life, emphasising that Crimea will be free.

“We hope that Crimea, liberated from the Russian occupiers, will as soon as possible become a place where we can gather together. We wish freedom to all political prisoners and their swift reunion with their families. May Allah grant Ukraine victory! And to the Crimean Tatar people — a happy life in their homeland. Crimea will be cleansed of those who brought evil and misfortune. Crimea will be free, and the flag of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar national flag will always fly in every corner of it,” the statement read.
