Mudryk could leave Chelsea following the arrival of Xabi Alonso
This is reported in an article by World Soccer Talk.
London-based Chelsea have officially confirmed that Xabi Alonso will take over as the team’s head coach from 1 July.
The Spanish coach has agreed in advance on the terms regarding squad building and the club’s future transfer policy.
Although Chelsea still has five sporting directors, the head coach will have the final say on incoming and outgoing transfers.
Alonso plans to focus not on mass signings of young players, as was previously the case, but on bringing in more experienced players to strengthen the squad.
A squad clear-out at Chelsea
The team faces a major overhaul. Due to an excessively large squad and the possible absence of European competition next season, the club will have to trim the squad.
According to World Soccer Talk, Alonso may soon part ways with a number of players who have failed to live up to expectations.
Among those players mentioned are Tosin Adarabioyo, Mamadou Sarra, Trevoh Chalobah, Dario Essugo, Alejandro Garnacho and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Why Mudryk’s future is in doubt
The article describes Mykhailo Mudryk’s situation as the most complicated.
The Ukrainian is serving a ban for breaching anti-doping rules. According to the source, he received the maximum penalty – a four-year ban.
If the appeal is unsuccessful, Mudryk will only be able to return in December 2028. As a result, he is effectively not part of the new manager’s plans.
Mudryk’s statistics at Chelsea
Mudryk’s last match for Chelsea was on 28 November 2024. It was a Conference League match against Heidenheim, which ended 2-0.
During his time at the London club, the winger has played 73 matches.
He has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists.
Mudryk’s contract with Chelsea runs until 30 June 2031.
Chelsea’s position this season
After 36 rounds, Chelsea sit tenth in the English Premier League table.
The team has 49 points.
In the next round, the London club will face Tottenham. The match is scheduled for 19 May, with kick-off at 22:15 Kyiv time.
As reported by ThePublic, the Football Association has banned Chelsea’s Ukrainian midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk for four years over a breach of anti-doping rules. The player’s representatives have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, whilst Mudryk himself denies using performance-enhancing drugs.
