The court has sentenced the perpetrators who blew up the bank in Chernihiv
Following the inspection of the scene, police established that the contents of the bank's vaults were not damaged. However, signs of an unsuccessful attempt to steal clients' property from deposit boxes in the safe deposit area, where over 5.5 million hryvnias were stored, were recorded.
After extinguishing the fire, it was established that a group of individuals had broken into the bank by dismantling the floor, disguising their actions with the fire. However, due to the destruction of the premises as a result of the explosion, the perpetrators did not complete their plan, reports Chernihiv Region Police Department.
Criminal police units established that the crime was committed by 40-year-old and 42-year-old residents of Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions. The suspects had previously been convicted of robberies and illegal possession of weapons. Police found out that they had been preparing for the crime at the bank for several months. The accomplices dug and reinforced a tunnel underground leading to the basement of an adjacent multi-story building, and also prepared an opening in the wall directly to the bank's vault.
As a result of a special operation supported by KORD fighters, police detained the suspects in Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions.
At the homes of the detainees and at the facilities under their control, police seized, in addition to evidence of the intrusion into the bank branch and its damage by explosion, a particularly dangerous psychoactive substance and nearly 4.5 kilograms of a controlled narcotic substance – cannabis.
One of the defendants was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison with confiscation of property, and the other to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
