The external power supply to the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been cut off for the second time this week
This was reported by the IAEA.
The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that the external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was lost on the evening of 16 April. Power was restored approximately 40 minutes later.
According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the exact cause of the outage remains unknown. A team of agency experts at the plant is investigating the circumstances of the incident and continues to monitor the situation.
The IAEA emphasised that this new failure once again confirms the extremely unstable state of nuclear safety at the facility. Grossi stressed that such incidents indicate that persistent risks to the plant remain.
The previous incident occurred on the morning of 14 April, when the ZNPP completely lost its external power supply. At that time, emergency diesel generators automatically switched on to maintain the operation of safety systems. That incident was the 13th since the start of the full-scale war.
As reported by ThePublic, the Zaporizhzhia NPP experienced its 13th blackout since the start of the full-scale war — it lost power from both external power lines. Diesel generators immediately kicked in at the plant.
