Security at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the exclusion zone is being strengthened with personnel, equipment and new approaches to defence.

The National Guard of Ukraine is strengthening security at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the exclusion zone, as well as deepening coordination with the Defence Forces to ensure the stable security of these facilities. This was announced by the commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko, on Facebook.

According to him, the work to strengthen protection is systematic and covers not only the frontline areas, but also all regions of the country. During his working trip, Pivnenko checked the condition of checkpoints, the level of engineering defence facilities, and the readiness of strongholds and units serving at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and in the exclusion zone.

The commander stressed that the key elements of security remain the protection of border areas, countering sabotage threats, the development of fortifications and constant risk analysis. In recent months, the units responsible for guarding facilities in the exclusion zone have been reinforced with personnel and modern weapons, including anti-tank missile systems, mortars, and air defence systems.

According to Pivnenko, special attention is being paid to the development of unmanned systems that allow for continuous monitoring of the situation and rapid response to threats. He also stressed the importance of interagency cooperation to strengthen the defence and protection of the state's critical infrastructure.
