Law enforcement officers identified and detained residents of the Kyiv region who were involved in the sale of trophy weapons, ammunition and explosives. They have been charged.

The Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine is taking measures to block channels for the illegal supply of captured weapons from combat zones to peaceful areas of the country. The police emphasise that the entry of illegal weapons into the civilian environment creates risks of their use for committing crimes.

As part of these measures, operatives from the Strategic Investigations Department in Kyiv, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, have identified individuals involved in the sale of captured weapons, as well as their sources of origin. Law enforcement officers have documented several cases of the sale of more than 90 grenades of various types with fuses.

During the arrest, six loaded magazines with 5.45 calibre ammunition, almost 500 rounds of various calibres, TNT blocks with a total weight of 600 grams, a pistol and weapon components were seized. They also seized €2,000, $5,600, and 137,000 hryvnia.

Investigators from the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kyiv region reported that the 40-year-old detainee and his 49-year-old accomplice were suspected of violating Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for punishment of up to seven years' imprisonment.

The proceedings are being conducted by the Bila Tserkva Specialised Prosecutor's Office for the Central Region.
