New rules for Ukrainian refugees are being drawn up in the Czech Republic
This is according to Czechia Online.
Ukrainians are to be transferred to the general social assistance system
According to the publication, the package of changes could be finalised by the end of May 2026. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has stated that the government plans to abandon specific support conditions for Ukrainians. This involves a transition to the standard social assistance system that applies to all residents of the country. If the changes are adopted, Ukrainians may lose some of their special payments, housing benefits and simplified support programmes.
The Czech Republic wants to tighten checks
The Czech authorities also plan to tighten controls on the conditions of Ukrainians’ stay in the country. Checks may cover place of residence, possession of health insurance, official employment and compliance with labour legislation. The authorities plan to pay particular attention to combating informal employment and possible abuse of social benefits.
Technical inspections may be introduced for cars with Ukrainian number plates
Another planned change concerns cars with Ukrainian registration. The Czech Republic intends to introduce mandatory technical inspections for such vehicles.
The following will be checked:
- the technical condition of the vehicle;
- compliance with environmental standards;
- operational safety.
Without passing the roadworthiness test, the use of the car may be restricted. At present, the exact dates on which the new rules will come into force have not been officially announced.
