Night drone attack on Kharkiv: 19 casualties, strikes on residential buildings and medical facilities
In Kharkiv, the number of victims of a massive night attack by Russian drones has risen to 19. This was reported on the morning of 24 January by Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
According to him, the attack lasted from 00:08 to 02:32, and the city was under attack for almost two and a half hours. Russian troops used 25 Shahed-type strike drones. The Industrial and Nemyshlyanskyi districts of Kharkiv suffered the most damage.
Enemy drones hit multi-storey and private residential buildings. In the Industrial district, apartments in a four-storey building caught fire, from which rescuers evacuated five people, including one child. Fires were also reported in another multi-storey building and a company building. A dormitory and a medical facility were damaged.
In the Nemyshlyanskyi district, a private house was hit, causing a large-scale fire. In total, about 13 private homes were damaged in this area. A separate strike was recorded near a dormitory where 48 internally displaced persons lived. There are casualties among the residents.
The hospital and maternity hospital were also damaged as a result of the attack. As of this morning, 19 people are known to have suffered various injuries, including a 12-year-old boy who is experiencing acute stress reaction. Some of the victims sought medical help on their own.
A total of 134 rescuers and 34 units of equipment from the State Emergency Service, as well as police, medics, utility services and volunteers, are involved in dealing with the aftermath of the shelling. Psychologists are working at the sites of the strikes, and assistance to residents, recording of damage and restoration of damaged networks are ongoing.
