Russian night-time attacks on Ukraine: casualties and damage reported in several regions

During the night of 21 April and over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have attacked several regions of Ukraine. Residential areas, a medical facility, an administrative building and private homes have come under fire, resulting in casualties.

Sumy Region

A series of explosions rocked Sumy overnight. According to a Telegram post by Mayor Artem Kobzar, more than five strikes were recorded in the Zarichny district in one of the residential areas. Windows were shattered in residential buildings and cars caught fire. A strike also hit the roof of one of the healthcare facilities.

Serhiy Kryvosheyko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, reported that four people were initially injured as a result of the night-time attack, including a 17-year-old child. She and two men were hospitalised, whilst another casualty was treated at the scene.

The Sumy police noted that the strikes hit a residential area of the city. According to their preliminary data, at least six people are known to have been injured, including a 17-year-old child. Law enforcement officers recorded damage to residential buildings and confirmed that the roof of one of the medical facilities had been hit. Investigative teams and bomb disposal experts are working at the scenes.

Oleg Grigorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, later reported that 15 residents of Sumy were injured as a result of the night-time attack by enemy drones. Among the injured are three children, girls aged 13, 15 and 17. They have been hospitalised and are receiving the necessary medical care. According to him, most of the victims are elderly people.

Kharkiv region

In Kharkiv this morning, an enemy drone struck an administrative building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. This was reported on Telegram by the mayor, Ihor Terekhov. Information regarding the casualties was being verified at the time of reporting.

In the village of Zamist in the Kupianskyi district, according to the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv Oblast, a fire broke out in a residential area following an enemy attack. A residential building and an outbuilding covering an area of 65 square metres were on fire. The fire has been extinguished; there were no casualties.

In Chuhuiv, as reported on Telegram by Mayor Galina Minaeva, around five private homes and a children’s facility were damaged following a Russian drone attack at 4:20 am. No one was injured.

Zaporizhzhia region

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 725 strikes on 39 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. This was reported on Telegram by the head of the regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, as cited by Ukrinform.

According to his data, two people were killed and ten others wounded as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district. There were 153 reports of damage to homes, vehicles and infrastructure.

Kherson region

In the Kherson region, one person was killed and five others were injured over the past 24 hours as a result of Russian strikes. This was reported on Telegram by the head of the regional state administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.

According to him, four high-rise buildings, 14 private houses, a private garage and cars were damaged.

Dnipropetrovsk region

Since the evening, Russian forces have attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly ten times using drones, artillery and aerial bombs. This was reported on Telegram by Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, as cited by Ukrinform.

According to him, four people were injured. In the Nikopol district, the communities of Nikopol, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrivka and Marganets were targeted. Two boys aged 16 and 18 were injured and hospitalised with moderate injuries.

In the Synelnykivskyi district, the communities of Dubovykivka, Mykolaivka and Pokrovka were attacked. Two private houses were destroyed, and two more caught fire. Two men were injured. A 65-year-old man was hospitalised in a moderately serious condition, whilst a 40-year-old man will receive outpatient treatment.
