Germany provides Ukraine with another €100 million for energy system restoration
Germany announced the allocation of an additional €100 million in emergency aid to Ukraine for the restoration of the energy system, which is constantly under attack from Russia. The funds will be channeled through the state development bank KfW to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which has been collecting contributions from international partners since 2022.
In the German Ministry of Economics and Energy, it was emphasized that Russian attacks have turned energy supply into an actual front line. Minister Katrin Reiche stated that additional funding is a clear signal of support for Ukrainians during the winter period: “Those who protect energy supply — protect people”.
The Energy Support Fund allocates funds for the purchase of equipment, components, and spare parts for repairing damaged energy facilities. Purchases are made through transparent and competitive tenders, and KfW closely monitors compliance with corporate governance standards by Ukrainian energy companies.
With the new tranche, Germany's contribution to the fund will increase to €550 million, making it the largest donor. Overall, partners have already committed to providing over €1.7 billion to support Ukraine's energy sector.
