Germany has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2027
Germany has automatically extended temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in accordance with Section 24 of the Residence Act. The new validity period for this status has been set until 4 March 2027, according to the Ministry of Finance.
This provision regulates the granting of temporary protection to people who have left their country due to full-scale war. The decision provides for the retention of current status for those who have already obtained the relevant residence permit.
The extension is automatic. Ukrainians do not need to submit additional applications or contact the authorities. The documents remain valid under the previous conditions.
Confirmation of status will likely be provided in the form of A4 letters. At the same time, some federal states are considering switching to plastic cards instead of paper documents.
For Ukrainians planning to enter Germany for the first time, the rules remain unchanged. They may cross the border without a visa or special permits if this is their first visit to the country.
Status under Section 24 allows you to work, study and receive social support whilst staying in Germany.
At the same time, for those planning to stay in the country for an extended period, the possibility of switching to other types of residence permits is being considered. These include work, student or business permits.
The extension of temporary protection ensures stability for Ukrainians staying in Germany for the foreseeable future.
