Norway thrashed Iraq in their opening group match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In the first-round match of Group I, Norway beat Iraq 4–1. The match took place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute. In the 39th minute, Hussein equalised, but before half-time Haaland scored his second, putting the Norwegians back in front.
In the second half, Leo Estigård extended the Scandinavian side’s lead with a goal in the 73rd minute. The final score was sealed by an own goal from Hussein in stoppage time.
The first round of matches in Groups K and L will conclude the following day. The fixtures will see Portugal take on the DR Congo, Uzbekistan face Colombia, England play Croatia, and Ghana meet Panama.
The 2026 World Cup is the first to feature 48 national teams. Argentina are the reigning champions. The tournament final will take place on 19 July in New York.
