Fuel prices are rising again: how much will Ukrainians pay for petrol, diesel and autogas?
Another increase in fuel prices is expected in Ukraine. According to experts, prices for petrol, diesel and liquefied gas will continue to rise in February, with some items potentially exceeding psychologically important thresholds.
As fuel market expert Gennady Ryabtsev explained in a comment to TSN.ua, the so-called "dead season" for petrol stations ended in mid-January. Since then, prices have been steadily rising under the pressure of several factors.
The first of these is an increase in excise duties. From 1 January 2026, the tax burden on fuel has increased: by 10% for petrol, 15% for diesel fuel and 13% for liquefied gas.
The second factor is the situation on the global oil market. During January, the price of Brent crude rose by about 10%, from $60 to $66 per barrel. Since Ukraine is completely dependent on imports of petroleum products, this increase is reflected in retail prices with a delay.
The third element of pressure is the exchange rate. According to experts' estimates, each additional increase in the dollar exchange rate by one hryvnia automatically adds about 80 kopecks to the cost of one litre of fuel.
"Already, oil and the exchange rate have caused the purchase price to rise by more than 2 hryvnia per litre. Over the next few weeks, a 2 hryvnia increase at petrol stations is a virtually guaranteed scenario," said Ryabtsev.
If things go badly, average prices in February could go over 60 hryvnia per litre for A-95 petrol and diesel fuel. The cost of autogas is expected to be close to 40 hryvnia per litre.
Liquefied gas remains the most vulnerable commodity. Due to limited reserves and complex logistics, it is becoming more expensive faster than other types of fuel. Since the beginning of winter, the price of autogas has already risen by about 12% to 37-38 hryvnia per litre, and, according to experts, the potential for further growth has not yet been exhausted.
